Crouch

Distinguish crouching and map it to the Runner slide action.

Purpose and status

Crouch exists in the legacy engine and V3 research. Runner maps Crouch to Slide(). The current default Demo Assist behavior must not be described using the legacy thresholds on this page.

Inputs and joints

The legacy front-view 2D path uses shoulders, hips and the bilateral ankle center to evaluate torso descent and vertical leg compression. Knee angles are diagnostic values, not entry or release gates in that path. V3 relative geometry uses knee change and current support evidence in its decisions, so the distinction matters.

Legacy normalized features

Hip, shoulder and torso-center drops are divided by calibrated torso length. Vertical leg compression uses the same length reference. These features help distinguish whole-body image translation from body compression.

Distance values are torso-length ratios. They are not V3 commit thresholds.

V3 relative geometry

CrouchRelativeFeatureExtractor measures shoulder and hip contraction toward support against an episode-frozen local rest reference. InitialCrouchDescent requires contraction and coherent body, hip and shoulder descent. Commitment also requires full contraction, meaningful knee change and floor-compatible support. Lateral context requires stronger independent duck evidence.

State and rearm

Simplified lifecycle. Failed candidates cancel; a new action requires rearm conditions. Consult each implementation for exact state names.

Legacy crouch is sustained, with Started, Ended and Cancelled phases. V3 separately owns descent candidates, commitment, release and recovery. Release and rearm must not count as another crouch. V3 stable release is configured at 0.080 s and recovery at 0.700 s; neither is a product responsiveness guarantee.

Confidence and false-positive risks

Missing feet, forward bow, camera-relative scale change, lateral bob and jump preload need separate treatment. Support points are image references, not physical contact sensors.

Validation and limitations

CrouchV3DetectorTests and related feature implementations were inspected. Existing tests are not current physical acceptance. Readiness and reference-lockout concerns remain in known limitations.
